About İstanbul 29 Mayıs University

Turkish Religious Foundation (TDV) which has carried out important activities and projects that will contribute to the development of Turkey in the field of education and science, provided scholarships to thousands of students in secondary and higher education (undergraduate and graduate) stages, offered dormitories to the service of Turkish youth and extended education and training support to friendly communities, especially Central Asia, Caucasus and the Balkans, has started Encyclopedia of Islamic Religious Foundation of Turkey (DİA) studies in 1983 and has put Islamic Research Center (İSAM) into operation in 1988.

The Foundation has finally moved its services to an important stage with Istanbul 29 Mayıs University which was founded in 2010 as a result of many years of experience and efforts.

Our university, where people from different beliefs and cultures have lived together for centuries, and is the meeting point of civilizations, aims to contribute to the scientific accumulation of humanity with original research, and to train competent researchers and scientists to achieve this.

Under the umbrella of Faculty of Letters, Istanbul 29 Mayıs University has started its education and training activities by admitting students to Philosophy, History, and Turkish Language and Literature departments in the academic year ofv2010-2011. Since the 2012-2013 academic year, Compulsory English Preparatory Program has been opened for the students who have been placed in these departments. In the 2014-2015 academic year, Psychology, Translation and Interpreting (English), and Translation and Interpreting (Arabic) programs were opened and as of 2019-2020 academic year, the language of education in the Faculty of Letters is partially (at least 30%) in English.

In the 2011-2012 academic year, 29 Mayıs University began its educational activities under the name of Faculty of Theology, Faculty of International Islamic and Religious Sciences by admitting students to the Islamic and Religious Sciences Program with the language of instruction which is partially (at least 30%) in Arabic. Compulsory Arabic Preparatory Program has been required for the students who are placed in the “International Theology Program” since the 2012-2013 academic year. Since 2011-2012 academic year, students from this faculty who have successfully completed the Compulsory Arabic Preparation Program are sent to leading universities in Jordan within a two-month program in order to take various courses as guest students and to improve their Arabic.

In the 2013-2014 academic year, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences started educational activities by admitting students to Political Science and International Relations Program, whose language of education is English. In the 2014-2015 academic year, Economics (English) and Social Work (Turkish) programs were opened, and the first students were accepted.

The Faculty of Education has started education in Turkish Language and Social Sciences Department in the 2019-2020 academic year by admitting students to Turkish Language Teaching Program, whose language of instruction is Turkish. Students will be admitted to this faculty for 2020-2021 academic year undergraduate programs in Arabic Language Teaching, English Language Teaching, Preschool Teaching, and Guidance and Psychological Counseling.

For the first time in the 2020-2021 academic year, students will be admitted to the Faculty of Law, which was opened in our university in January 2020.

In order for students to learn the foreign languages they will need in their faculty studies at a good level, School of Foreign Languages, Continuous Education Application and Research Center (29 Mayıs SÜREM), Turkish Education Application and Research Center (29 Mayıs TÜRÖMER) and Arabic Center for Education Implementation and Research (29 Mayıs ARÖMER) have been opened within Istanbul 29 Mayıs University and in these centers, suitable environments and programs are organized for language learning, and scientific and professional development.

Within our university, the Qur’an Research and Application Center (KURAMER), Psychology Research and Application Center (29 Mayıs PAMER) and Economic and Financial Systems Application and Research Center (29 Mayıs EFSAM) continue to operate and it is planned to establish other research and application centers in the near future to diversify our fields of scientific research and publication, and to conduct more extensive studies.

Istanbul 29 Mayıs University aims to provide all graduates with the necessary equipment for life and profession, as well as providing opportunities for aspiring and talented young people to prepare for postgraduate education even at the undergraduate stage. In order to have a significant share in the education of future academicians, within the institute of Social Sciences, our university opened postgraduate programs in Translation and Interpreting Studies (English), Economics and Finance, Philosophy, Psychology, Political Science and International Relations, History, Basic Islamic Sciences and Turkish Language Literature, and accepted its students. Graduate programs in the fields of Translation and Interpreting Studies (Arabic), Early Childhood Moral and Values Education, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Islamic Economics and Finance, and Spiritual Counseling and Guidance will accept the students in the 2020-2021 academic year.

On the other hand, our university cooperates with prestigious universities at home and abroad in order to achieve the goals set in scientific research in education. Our university continues its education and academic activities in Ümraniye Elmalıkent Campus with its outstanding academic staff and students.
